BEEF WITH SAUCE

Ingredients:
500 g beef (you can use steak, loin or tenderloin)
1 medium onion, julienned
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 bell pepper (can be red or green), cut into strips
2 ripe tomatoes, peeled and chopped (or 1 cup tomato puree)
1 cup beef broth (if you don’t have broth you can use water)
2 tablespoons soy sauce (optional)
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon paprika or paprika
2 tablespoons vegetable or olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:

  1. Cut the beef into strips or cubes.
  2. Season the meat with salt, pepper and cumin. Let it rest for a few minutes.
  3. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons oil over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the meat and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the meat from the pan and set aside.
  5. In the same pan, add a little more oil if necessary and reduce the heat to medium.
  6. Add the onion and garlic and sauté until the onion is transparent.
  7. Add the pepper and cook for another 3-5 minutes or so, until soft.
  8. Add chopped tomatoes or tomato puree. Simmer until tomatoes break down and form a thick sauce, about 5-7 minutes.
  9. Return the meat to the pan with the sauce.
  10. Add the beef broth (or water) and soy sauce if using.
  11. Simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the meat is tender and the sauce has reduced and thickened.
  12. Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
  13. Serve the meat with spicy sauce, accompanied by your favorite side dish.
