Ingredients:
500 g beef (you can use steak, loin or tenderloin)
1 medium onion, julienned
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 bell pepper (can be red or green), cut into strips
2 ripe tomatoes, peeled and chopped (or 1 cup tomato puree)
1 cup beef broth (if you don’t have broth you can use water)
2 tablespoons soy sauce (optional)
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon paprika or paprika
2 tablespoons vegetable or olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
- Cut the beef into strips or cubes.
- Season the meat with salt, pepper and cumin. Let it rest for a few minutes.
- In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the meat and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the meat from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, add a little more oil if necessary and reduce the heat to medium.
- Add the onion and garlic and sauté until the onion is transparent.
- Add the pepper and cook for another 3-5 minutes or so, until soft.
- Add chopped tomatoes or tomato puree. Simmer until tomatoes break down and form a thick sauce, about 5-7 minutes.
- Return the meat to the pan with the sauce.
- Add the beef broth (or water) and soy sauce if using.
- Simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the meat is tender and the sauce has reduced and thickened.
- Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the meat with spicy sauce, accompanied by your favorite side dish.
